TU154 remains the standard airliner on domestic flights in states of the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe and Iran, the ability to operate from gravel or packed earth airfields , fly at high altitudes above most Soviet Union air traffic , Single - engine flight is possible at a lower altitude and Cantilever low wing monoplane. the initial TU154, the improved TU154A with more powerful engines and a higher max take off weight and the TU154B with a further increased max take off weight , TU154S is a freighter version of theTU154B , the major change introduced on the 154M was the far more economical, quieter and reliable Soloviev turbofans (NATO code name: careless)
